Modalities that helped me to heal and Be Healthy: Thai Massage…

I have learned so much in my search to heal from my injuries and in my mission to create a healthy lifestyle. When you are in pain you are willing to try just about anything to make it stop. So, I researched and tried many things, one of which is Thai Massage. With the use of Thai Massage I was able to relive pain, add flexibility and find a deeper connection with myself.

Buddhist monks used Yoga-Thai Massage as a healing modality over 2,500 years ago. It is a blend of Yoga, Meditation, Acupressure and Reflexology. It restores the flow of energy throughout the body with passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body’s Sen lines or Thai “meridians”.

It is unique in it’s combination of both physical and energetic aspects and can be both deeply relaxing and energizing. It is Yoga that is performed on the client, not by the client. It is used to increase flexibility, release tension and balance the body’s energy systems. The client doesn’t need any experience or training to enjoy the benefits of Thai Massage. The results depend both on the therapist’s ability to create a trust with the client and the client’s receptiveness and ability to relax. They work together on healing the mind, body and spirit.

The massage is performed on a matt or mattress on the floor to provide the therapist plenty of room for movement and body-weight distribution. Lotions and oils are not used in Thai Massage and the client is fully clothed in loose, comfortable clothing.

The client starts by laying on their back. The therapist uses a sequence of gentle flowing stretches and movements while leaning on the client’s body and/or applying pressure with her hands, feet and forearms. This full-body treatment begins at the feet and moves up to the head. For at least sixty minutes the client’s body is moved in to various yoga-like positions as their joints and muscles are moved, loosened and stretched. The therapist and the client move in harmony to the rhythm of the massage.

      Looks good! Jorie in Kyoto wants me to have massage from her Buddhist guy while I am there… but who knows if the schedule will allow?! Clif
