Modalities that helped me to heal and Be Healthy: EFT…

I have learned so much in my search to heal from my injuries and in my mission to create a healthy lifestyle. When you are in pain you are willing to try just about anything to make it stop. So, I researched and tried many things, one of which is EFT. With the use of EFT I was able to release the issues related to the accident that were holding me back from recovering, like letting go and forgiveness.

EFT is one of many tools I have discovered on my Healing Journey. Click HERE to subscribe to my blog to receive more articles in this series and others about how to heal and Be Healthy.

What is EFT?

EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique, is a modality that works to restore the flow of energy within the body, qì (pronounced “chee”). It is psychological acupressure, based on the energy meridians points used in traditional Chinese medicine. This self-healing tool relieves emotional and physical issues by using specific phrases and positive affirmations while tapping on energy meridian points. This process allows you to release emotional blocks or charges and bring balance to your body and mind. EFT can be used for almost any emotional, physical or performance issue. It is safe, drug-free and easy to perform.

What issues can be addressed with EFT?

EFT can be used on almost any issue including:

  • Anxiety
  • Attracting Abundance
  • Pain Management
  • Weight Loss
  • Addictive Cravings
  • Relaxation
  • Anger
  • Procrastination
  • Stress
  • Clarity
  • Concentration
  • Clutter
  • Trauma
  • Grief
  • Letting Go
  • Sports Performance
  • Guilt
  • Fear
  • Confidence
  • Self-Esteem
  • Forgiveness
  • Loss
  • Phobias
  • Insomnia
  • Success

How is EFT Performed?

Click HERE to download an EFT Tapping Chart.

  1. Choose the issue you want to target. Be specific.
  2. Rate your discomfort on a scale of 0-10.
  3. Create a Setup Phrase: “Even though I have this ___(“Your Issue”)___, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” (Example: “Even though I have this fear of public speaking, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”)
  4. Preform the Setup: Repeat Setup Phrase three times while tapping on the Karate Chop point with four fingers.
  5. Take a deep breath.
  6. Perform Tapping Sequence: Tap 5-7 times and repeat “Even though I have this ___(“Your Issue”)___, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” on each of point, while you picture the problem or situation. Tapping is done with two fingers around eyes and face. Use four fingers under the arm and top of the head. Four fingers or a fist can be used on the collar bone.
Tapping Points: (see downloaded chart above)

    • Top of Head
    • Eyebrow
    • Side of Eye
    • Under Eye
    • Under Nose
    • Chin
    • Collarbone
    • Under Arm
  7. Take a deep cleansing breath.
  8. Rate your discomfort on a scale of 0-10 and compare this to your first rating.
  9. Repeat tapping process until your discomfort is near or at zero.
  10. Revised Setup Phrase: “Even though I still have this ___(“Your Issue”)___, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
  11. Other issues may come up in this process. You would then tap on the new issue.

  1. Love it. I have been using EFT for years to deal with stress and anxiety. I never thought about using it to attract abundance. How would you do that?

    • Hi Laurie, I’m glad you ar familiar with EFT and have been using it successfully. To use it to attract abundance I use statements like “I am open to all the good and Abundance the Universe has to offer.” or “I choose to raise my vibration by celebrating Abundance now.”. You could also go to Carol Look’s website at This link is to her posts which include EFT scripts for abundance as well as many other scripts using positive affirmations. Have fun! Let me know what you think of the site and scripts. 😉

My girl at does group EFT and it is amazing! I went from a 10 in stress down to a 3 just tapping for other people’s issues for an hour! I love it and highly recommend it.

    • Tanya, I love it too! It seemed a bit strange to me at first, but it works. I’t great that you know someone who does group EFT. I’m glad you were able to get results too. Thanks for your post! 😉

  3. Scott Powers says:

Great stuff Heather! I learned about and experienced EFT a few years back, but it has become one of those tools that stays in the shed. This is a good reminder to put it to use in times stress!

    • Thanks for your support Scott! I’m glad you have had success with EFT in the past. It is a great tool to have in your toolbox. I glad this article reminded you to use it if needed. 😉

  4. Yvette says:

Interesting! I’d heard of EFT but didn’t know it could address so many issues. Enlightening post, you can even attract abundance would love to learn more – thanks Heather!

  5. Like, Scott said — it’s one of those tools that I need to dust off. Thanks for the reminder!

  6. EFT is also fun! I was introduced to it while power walking with our mutual friend Deb Kern (she has big long legs and a lot of disapproval of myself was coming up for me!) – so she taught me to tap 🙂 Nowadays if she catches me grimacing in the mirror while she leads us in herculean exercises in her dance class… she says “tap Maddy!” So I can vouch… it works AND it gets me laughing.

  7. I’m with Scott & Kerrie. I’ve used EFT in the past, but have for some reason set it aside. This is a great reminder to access the tools we already have. ~ Loralee

  8. I’ve heard of EFT and even been tempted to try it, but just felt like it would take alot of training and time to really do it “right” (whatever that means). Thanks for a straight-forward explanation plus I really love the idea that is it “psychological acupressure” – what a great comparison.

    • Hi Jennifer, thanks for your comments. If you are uncomfortable with trying it on your own I would suggest going on youtube and searching Brad Yates. He has some amazing videos there to choose from. Good luck! 😉

  9. Hi Heather! Thanks for this post! I tried EFT once, and enjoy the meditative process of it as well. It’s so easy to do, but I’ve forgotten that it’s something I can do anytime! Thanks for the reminder 🙂

    • Thank you Michelle! I’m glad you like EFT. You’re right it does have a meditative aspect too. What I really like about it is that anyone can do it at anytime. I’m glad I was able to remind you about it. 😉

  10. Jenn Burton says:

I love EFT, I use it with my 3 year old, so she can learn to smooth her emotions. I’ve also used it with clients to help them with dating anxiety. Such a great tool, and so awesome that it has helped you so much with the emotions from your accident.

  11. Jeanette says:

I did some research and tried EFT a while back in relation to some health issues I was having, but never really followed up. I am definitely going to make some time to try it again as I think it is a great tool. (And you can really take it with you anywhere you go!)

  12. Tina Pruitt says:

Hi Heather and thanks for this post! I have a video for Tapping (can’t recall the name….maybe the Tapping Solution??)…so would this be the same thing? I thought it was super interesting, and it sounds like the same type practice. I didn’t realize you could use if for so many things, and will definitely check out the YouTube vids you commented on.

Thanks for a great post and I hope to add this to my life soon!
    xo, Tina

  13. Amy says:

Thank you. EFT is completely new to me, but sounds like a good way to get rid of anxiety and help with self confidence issues. I will investigate this more.
