How to Create a Healthy Home – Aluminum in Antiperspirants…

Your Journey Toward a Healthy Lifestyle Begins in Your Home and in Your Body.

You are focused on being healthy, but are you aware of the hidden dangers that lurk in your home?

PROBLEM:

Aluminum chlorohydrate or aluminum zirconium are the active ingredients used in antiperspirants. They stop your body from sweating by plugging your sweat glands and pores. If you don’t sweat, you don’t smell. Aluminum has been linked to breast cancer, kidney failure, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. There have been many studies on this with conflicting results and more studies are needed.

7 Ways To Start Transforming Your Life Right Now…

In the last 3 years since I was in a severe automobile accident my focus has been on my healing journey. My first intention was to get my body back to where it was before the accident. Many of the changes have made my life better than it was before the accident. I have transformed my body, my health, my life and the lives of those around me.

I once was told that I was a baby chick in an egg, pecking away at the shell from the inside about to hatch. Recently some one said that I was a beautiful flower bud about to burst open into full bloom. I have an image of myself as going from a caterpillar to a chrysalis. Soon I will emerge from my cocoon as a beautiful butterfly.

I am on a journey of transformation and I invite you to come along with me. You can take baby steps or giant leaps. You can change one small thing or many big things. All you need to do is pick a place to start from the list below and once you put it into practice you have begun your transformation. Take as many or as few steps as needed.

Simplify Your Environment and Create a Healthy Body

My husband, daughter and I took a much needed trip to visit my parents this weekend. They live a little over two hours north of us in a small town west of Traverse City called Lake Ann, Michigan. We go there to relax and enjoy their company, but not nearly as often as we should.

Their farmhouse sits on 40 acres of land and only one of the two other houses on their road is visible from theirs. The stars are always brighter there on a clear night. The darkness is always darker there on a moonless night. They do not have any light pollution, sound pollution, water pollution or air pollution. Everything is fresher there, everything tastes and smells better there.

Their nights are usually filled with the occasional hoot of an owl or howl of a coyote. Maybe even the rustling of a herd of deer passing by. The night we arrived was just filled with snow, lots of snow, plus the occasional rush and crash of the snow as it slid off the metal roof on their house and slammed to the ground. There were also a few flashes of lightening followed by the rumble of thunder. Thunder snow? That can’t be good.

How to Create a Healthy Home – Petroleum Based Fragrances…

Your Journey Toward a Healthy Lifestyle Begins in Your Home and in Your Body.

You are focused on being healthy, but are you aware of the hidden dangers that lurk in your home?

PROBLEM:

Fragrances used in products are safe, right?

Our homes are filled with products that contain fragrances including skin care products, cleaning products, perfumes, hair care products, paper products, air fresheners, candles, plastics and laundry products. When you look at the labels of these products you will only see fragrance listed as an ingredient because the actual formulas are trade secrets.

What are Chia Seeds and Why Would I Want to Eat Them?

What Are Chia Seeds?

When I first heard of Chia Seeds my mind went immediately to “Cha Cha Cha Chia…” the theme for Chia Pets. Do you remember Chia Pets? Those little clay animals that had Chia Seed “hair” that would grow. Well, the Chia Seeds that are the latest “superfood” are the same thing, with one exception, they are an edible grade grown for human consumption.

You are focused on being healthy, but are you aware of the
hidden dangers that lurk in your home?

PROBLEM:

You should look at everything you put on your skin and decide if it is something you would be willing
to eat. Why? Because 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bloodstream. That is why transdermal patches for medicines (nicotine, morphine, birth control, etc.) are so effective.

Stress, Inflammation and Illness…

Today’s guest post is by Dr. Karen Wolfe, M.B.B.S., MA • drkarenwolfe.org/blog/

Inflammation, Obesity and the Silent Killer…

In my seminar “Is Stress Fattening?”, the key topic I talk about is how stress creates inflammation in the body and subsequent weight gain as well as chronic illness.

What is inflammation?

Inflammation comes and goes in your body as part of the normal healing process. However, prolonged inflammation can be devastating. Many people are experiencing ongoing, low-level inflammation without even knowing it—and this is a crucial factor behind chronic disease.

Should we be taking Statin Drugs or Fish Oil?

Today’s guest post is by Dr. Karen Wolfe, M.B.B.S., MA • drkarenwolfe.org/blog/

Swiss investigators reviewed 97 randomized, controlled clinical trials, which involved over 275,000 subjects. They looked at comparing the reduction in cardiovascular deaths between individuals who were taking the lipid lowering drugs called statins, those who consumed higher doses of omega-3 fatty acids, and a controlled group or placebo group.

The statin group reduced cardiovascular deaths by 22%, while the omega-3 fatty acid group decreased cardiovascular disease by 32%. Statin drugs reduced overall mortality by 13%; however, the omega-3 fatty acid group reduced overall mortality by 23%.

We Are Living Too Short and Dying Too Long

Today’s guest post is by Ladd R. McNamara, M.D. • www.laddmcnamara.com

One of the world’s preeminent scientists, Dr. Myron Wentz said, “We are living too short and dying too long.” As a medical doctor who no longer practices medicine, I used to treat disease with drugs and perform surgeries because it was how I was educated and trained at two of the best medical institutions in this Country. However, nearly 98% of the national health care costs are spent in the last year of people’s lives, all trying to keep terminally ill people “alive.” We are keeping them alive, but usually with a very low quality of life. Many times it seems we are only extending their deaths!

5 Reasons Why Low-Fat Diets Don’t Work…

For over 20 years we have been taught that if we didn’t stop eating fat it, would make us fat. We listened to the advice of all the nutritionists, doctors and the media. We followed low-fat diets they recommended, but they left us overweight and scratching our heads wondering what happened. As Americans continue to focus on eating low-fat foods, obesity, diabetes and high-cholesterol has skyrocketed. This has caused many people to rethink the idea of low-fat dieting, including the nutritionists and doctors that originally supported it.

9 Ways to Create a Ripple Effect In Your Life…

Ripple-EffectThe logo for We Be Healthy,
my business, is a photo of a drop of water falling and creating a ripple. It is beautiful and serene. Is that why I chose it? Yes, and no. I chose this design because of it’s overall beauty. I also wanted the color to be green, which translates to a feeling of health and growth. I chose it for the water element, which also exudes health and fluidity. Finally I chose it for the ripple effect, which represents movement, growth, and change. This is a very powerful concept, that something so small can influence everything around it to move and change. This has become a metaphor for my life, my journey to heal and Be Healthy.

The Meeting as We Know it is Dead!

BusinessI have always hated attending company meetings. They are such a colossal waste of time! Meetings provide endless interruptions to the flow of the day. No one likes them and nothing ever gets done because of them. At best a compromise is made and then it may or may not be acted upon. Finally someone agrees with me…

Earlier today I attended the webinar “Embrace Change with Modern Meetings” featuring Al Pittampalli author of “Read this Before Our Next Meeting” and best-selling author Seth Godin. The webinar covered how is critical to change the way meetings are being held and create a “Modern Meeting.”

Why Didn’t Anyone Teach Me How To Breathe…Until Now?

breatheBreathing is just something that our bodies do without even thinking about it…right?

Wrong! We take breathing for granted. We rarely give it a thought unless we get winded going up a flight of stairs or light headed from holding our breath accidentally during a scary movie. Breathing keeps us alive by bringing oxygen into our blood.

Poor breathing can worsen many health conditions:
  • Anxiety
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Depression
  • Headaches
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Lack of Energy
  • Sleep Issues
  • Obesity
  • Stress

Your Skin is Your Largest Organ…Why Apply Chemicals to it?

skincareYou should look at everything you put on your skin and decide if it is something you would be willing to eat. Why? Because 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bloodstream. That is why transdermal patches for medicines (nicotine, morphine, birth control, etc.) are so effective.

There are over 10,000 chemicals are used in personal care products including: carcinogens, reproductive toxins, endocrine disruptors, phthalates, nitrosamines, lead, heavy metals and formaldehydes. Parabens, used as preservatives in almost all products, are designed to kill cells and prevent growth of bacteria and fungi. Manufacturers may use almost anything as an ingredient and market products without the FDA’s approval. Some chemicals are allowed only at certain levels, but these levels accumulate from using many products containing chemicals.

What is the Glycemic Index and Why should everyone know about it?

GI ImageThe Glycemic Index (GI) was developed in 1980 by Dr. David J. Jenkins. He was testing to see which foods were best for people with diabetes by measuring the blood glucose response to each food.

The GI is a useful tool for controlling blood glucose or for losing weight. It allows us to easily choose foods based on their ratings. High-GI foods are digested and absorbed quickly and cause blood glucose and insulin levels to rise quickly. Low-GI foods are digested and absorbed slowly, cause gradual rises in blood glucose and insulin levels. People who eat more high-GI foods tend to have a higher level of body fat (BMI). High BMIs are linked to obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
